Our horizontal carbonization furnace is designed for efficient carbonization of wood, bamboo, coconut shells, biomass briquettes, and other suitable biomass materials. Based on the customer’s raw materials, production capacity, and final charcoal application, we can recommend a suitable furnace model and complete carbonization solution.
With a horizontal furnace structure, internal heating, combustible gas recycling, and smoke purification, the equipment helps improve heat utilization, reduce additional fuel consumption, and meet the needs of different charcoal production projects.
What Is a Horizontal Carbonization Furnace?
A horizontal charcoal furnace is a batch-type charcoal carbonization machine specially designed for processing relatively large or irregular biomass materials. Unlike equipment mainly designed for fine biomass particles, the horizontal structure provides a larger working space for materials such as logs, branches, bamboo, wood blocks, and biomass briquettes.
The furnace uses heat to decompose the volatile components in biomass under a low-oxygen environment. During carbonization, combustible gases are generated and can be redirected to the heating system for reuse. This helps reduce the need for additional fuel while making better use of the energy generated during the carbonization process.

What Materials Can Be Carbonized?
The horizontal carbonization furnace can handle a wide range of wood and biomass materials, including:
- Hardwood and logs
- Bamboo
- Wood chips and branches
- Waste wood blocks
- Coconut shells and other hard shells
- Sawdust briquettes
- Biomass sticks
- Agricultural and forestry residues
The equipment is particularly suitable for processing relatively large or irregularly shaped raw materials. For fine materials such as sawdust, a sawdust briquette machine can first be used to compress them into biomass briquettes before carbonization. To achieve better carbonization results, the raw materials should be properly dried. For the relevant equipment configuration, the raw material moisture content should be below 40%.

Horizontal Carbonization Furnace Operation Instructions
1. Place the Furnace
Place the horizontal carbonization furnace on flat and stable ground.
2. Load the Raw Materials
Open the furnace door and load the materials to be carbonized. Fill the furnace as fully and tightly as possible to improve carbonization efficiency.
3. Start Heating
Place wood at the bottom of the furnace and ignite it to start heating.
4. Combustible Gas Ignition
When the furnace temperature reaches 150–200°C, the raw materials begin to release combustible gas. The gas passes through the built-in pipes into the combustion chamber and ignites automatically, providing heat for the carbonization process.
5. Complete Carbonization
Continue the carbonization process for approximately 5 hours. As the combustible gas is gradually consumed, the flame becomes smaller and eventually goes out, indicating that carbonization is complete.
6. Cool and Discharge the Charcoal
After carbonization, use the furnace’s built-in spray system to add an appropriate amount of water for cooling. Alternatively, wait until the furnace surface temperature drops below 50°C before opening the furnace door and removing the charcoal.
Safety Note:
Do not open the furnace door before cooling. If the temperature is above 50°C and the furnace has not been properly cooled, the hot charcoal may come into contact with air and spontaneously ignite.

Why Choose Our Horizontal Carbonization Furnace?
1. Suitable for Large Biomass Materials
The horizontal furnace is a good choice when your raw materials include logs, branches, bamboo, wood blocks, or other materials that are inconvenient to process in equipment designed for fine particles.
2. Recycles Combustible Gas
During carbonization, combustible gas generated from the biomass can be redirected to the combustion system. Reusing this gas helps reduce external fuel consumption and improves overall energy utilization.
3. Double-Layer Insulation
The furnace can be constructed with an inner and outer layer with high-temperature insulation material between them. This helps reduce heat loss and maintain a stable carbonization environment.
4. Convenient Loading and Unloading
A rail-and-cart design can be used to move raw materials into and out of the furnace. This makes loading and unloading more convenient, especially when processing logs, bamboo, and other bulky materials.
5. Integrated Smoke Purification
The carbonization system can be equipped with smoke purification components to treat gases generated during the process. Depending on the configuration, the system can include purification, condensation, heat exchange, and tar separation equipment.
6. Multiple Capacity Options
Different furnace sizes are available to match different production requirements. Typical referenced models range from 900–1200 kg to 2500–3000 kg per 12–14 hours. Actual carbonization time and output can vary according to the raw material and operating conditions.

Horizontal Carbonization Furnace Parameters
| Mfano | Uwezo | Uzito wa Mashine | Vipimo |
| SL-1300 | 900–1200 kg/12–14 h | 2,500 kg | 3 × 1.7 × 2.2 m |
| SL-1500 | 1,500–2,000 kg/12–14 h | 4000 kg | 4.5 × 1.9 × 2.3 m |
| SL-1900 | 2,500–3,000 kg/12–14 h | 5500 kg | 5 × 2.3 × 2.5 m |
The above figures are typical reference configurations. We can recommend a suitable model according to your raw material, moisture content, required charcoal output, and available production space.
What Charcoal Can Be Produced?
The horizontal carbonization furnace can produce lump charcoal from various biomass materials, including:
- Hardwood charcoal
- Bamboo charcoal
- Coconut shell charcoal
- Carbonized wood blocks
- Carbonized biomass briquettes
The finished charcoal can be used directly as fuel or further processed depending on the final application.
For customers producing BBQ charcoal or hookah/shisha charcoal, the carbonized material can be crushed into charcoal powder, mixed with a suitable binder, and then formed into the required shapes using charcoal briquette or shisha charcoal making equipment.

What Other Carbonization Furnaces Do We Provide?
In addition to the horizontal carbonization furnace, we also provide various types of biomass carbonization equipment. Different carbonization solutions can be selected according to the raw material, production capacity, and final product requirements.
Hoisting Carbonization Furnace
The hoisting carbonization furnace is suitable for batch carbonization of wood, bamboo, coconut shells, fruit shells, and other biomass materials. The raw materials are loaded into carbonization baskets, which can be lifted into the furnace using lifting equipment. After carbonization, the baskets can be lifted out for cooling and unloading.
This design reduces manual material handling and is suitable for customers who need to process biomass materials in batches.

Continuous Carbonization Furnace
The continuous carbonization furnace is mainly designed for continuous processing of sawdust, wood chips, rice husks, coconut shells, and other granular or powdery biomass materials. Raw materials can continuously enter the equipment, while carbonized materials are continuously discharged after heating and carbonization.
It is a suitable choice for projects that require a higher level of automation and continuous production.
