Sawdust dryer machine is an essential piece of equipment for reducing the moisture content of sawdust, wood chips,…

Sawdust dryer machine is an essential piece of equipment for reducing the moisture content of sawdust, wood chips, rice husks, straw, and other biomass materials before pelletizing, briquetting, or further processing. At Shuliy Machinery, we provide both biomass rotary dryers and airflow sawdust dryers to meet different production capacities and raw material requirements. Whether you operate a biomass pellet plant, charcoal briquette factory, or wood processing business, we can customize the most suitable drying solution for your production line.

What Is a Sawdust Dryer Machine?

A sawdust dryer machine, also known as a biomass dryer machine, is designed to remove excess moisture from biomass materials through heated air. By reducing the moisture content to the optimal level (generally 8%–12%), the machine improves the efficiency of biomass pellet production, charcoal briquetting, wood block manufacturing, and other downstream processes.

Fresh sawdust or agricultural waste often contains 30%–60% moisture, making it unsuitable for direct pelletizing or briquetting. A professional drying system ensures consistent product quality, higher fuel value, easier storage, and lower transportation costs.

Types of Shuliy Biomass Dryer Machines

Shuliy offers two drying solutions according to different production requirements.

Rotary Drum Type Wood Sawdust Dryer

Biomass rotary drum dryer is a continuous drying machine used to reduce the moisture content of biomass materials. It works by using a rotating drum combined with hot air heat exchange technology to evaporate the moisture from wet materials, making them suitable for further processing.

It is widely used in the biomass fuel processing industry for drying materials such as wood chips, sawdust, straw, rice husks, bagasse, palm fiber, and other biomass materials.

Simply speaking, its working process is:

Wet biomass materials → Rotary drum drying → Moisture reduction → Dried biomass materials → Pelletizing / briquetting / combustion use.

What Biomass Materials Can Be Dried?

The sawdust dryer machine is suitable for drying various types of biomass materials, including:

  • Serpihan kayu halus
  • Wood chips
  • Straw
  • Rice husk
  • Serai jagung
  • Bagasse
  • Palm fiber
  • Coconut shell fiber
  • Cangkang kacang tanah
  • Wet biomass materials before biomass pellet production

It is widely used for reducing the moisture content of biomass raw materials before further processing, such as biomass pelletizing, briquetting, and fuel production.

Working Principle of Biomass Rotary Drum Dryer

The biomass drum dryer mainly consists of a rotating drum, hot air furnace, feeding system, lifting plates, induced draft system, and dust removal system.

  1. Wet Materials Enter the Drum

Wet biomass materials such as sawdust, wood chips, and straw are fed into one end of the dryer through a conveyor.

    2. Drum Rotation Lifts and Scatters the Materials

Multiple specially designed lifting plates are installed inside the drum. As the drum rotates, the materials are continuously lifted, turned over, and scattered, forming a uniform material curtain inside the drum.

    3. Hot Air Performs the Drying Process

The high-temperature hot air generated by the hot air furnace enters the rotary drum and fully contacts the continuously tumbling biomass materials, absorbing and removing the moisture from them.

The heating furnace is installed by the customer. Our company can assist with the design and provide installation drawings according to the customer’s requirements.

    4. Moisture Vapor Is Discharged

The evaporated moisture is discharged together with the humid hot air through the fan and dust removal system, while the dried biomass materials are discharged from the other end of the dryer. Finally, a cooling system can be installed to lower the temperature of the final product.

Advantages of Biomass Rotary Drum Dryer

    1. Large Processing Capacity: The biomass rotary dryer is suitable for continuous industrial production and can meet the needs of large-scale biomass fuel processing plants.

    2. Uniform Drying Performance: The materials are continuously lifted and turned over inside the rotating drum, ensuring that every part of the biomass fully contacts the hot air for consistent and efficient drying.

    3. High Thermal Efficiency: Through optimized hot air circulation design, the dryer improves heat utilization efficiency and reduces energy consumption.

    4. Strong Adaptability: The machine can process various types of biomass materials with different sizes and moisture contents, such as sawdust, wood chips, straw, rice husks, and other biomass waste.

    5. Multiple Heating Sources Available

The heat source can be selected according to customer requirements, including:

    • Biomass fuel furnace
    • Natural gas burner
    • Coal-fired furnace
    • Electric heating system

    6. Easy Integration into Various Biomass Production Lines

The rotary sawdust dryer machine can be integrated into different biomass processing lines, such as:

    • Wood pellet production line
    • Biomass briquette production line
    • Wooden pallet production line
    • Other biomass fuel processing systems.

Common Configuration of Rotary Sawdust Dryer Machine

A complete biomass drying system usually includes the following equipment:

    • Hot Air Furnace: Provides the high-temperature hot air required for the drying process.
    • Rotary Drum Dryer: The core drying equipment used to reduce the moisture content of biomass materials.
    • Cyclone Dust Collector: Separates dust particles from the exhaust air to improve environmental performance and ensure clean operation.
    • Induced Draft Fan: Promotes hot air circulation inside the drying system and helps discharge humid air.
    • Conveyor System: Used for automatic feeding and discharging of biomass materials, improving the efficiency and automation level of the production process.

    Airflow Sawdust Dryer Machine

Airflow Dryer, also known as flash dryer or pneumatic dryer, is a type of drying equipment that uses high-speed hot air flow to achieve rapid drying of materials in a short period of time.

It is mainly suitable for drying powdery, granular, or lightweight fibrous materials, such as sawdust, wood chips, rice husks, rice bran, wood powder, and other biomass materials.

Compared with the rotary drum dryer, the airflow dryer features faster drying speed, smaller footprint, and lower investment cost. Therefore, it is widely used in industries such as biomass fuel production, wood processing, food processing, and chemical industries.

Working Principle of The Airflow Dryer

The airflow dryer uses hot air as the drying medium and generates a high-speed airflow under the action of a fan.

The working process is as follows:

    1. Feeding: Wet materials are fed into the drying pipeline through a screw conveyor or feeding device.
    2. Hot Air Mixing: The hot air furnace generates high-temperature air, which rapidly mixes with the wet materials inside the drying pipeline.
    3. High-Speed Drying: The materials are carried forward in a suspended state by the high-speed airflow. Heat exchange is completed within a few seconds, causing the moisture inside the materials to evaporate quickly.
    4. Material Separation: After drying, the materials enter the cyclone separator, where the materials are separated from the airflow by centrifugal force.
    5. Exhaust Gas Treatment: The exhaust gas passes through dust removal equipment such as a bag filter before being discharged, reducing dust pollution and improving environmental performance.

The entire drying process usually takes only a few seconds to several tens of seconds to complete.

What Raw Materials Can Be Processed by Airflow Dryer?

The airflow sawdust dryer machine is suitable for drying various lightweight biomass materials, including:

    • Serpihan kayu halus
    • Wood powder
    • Wood flour
    • Rice husk
    • Crushed corn cob
    • Cangkang kacang tanah
    • Bagasse
    • Palm fiber
    • Charcoal powder
    • Crushed biomass materials

It is worth mentioning that the airflow dryer is especially suitable for materials with small particle size, low density, and good flowability.

It is not suitable for large-sized or high-density materials, as the raw materials generally need to have a relatively small particle size to avoid pipeline blockage.

In addition, this machine is not recommended for materials with excessively high moisture content. In general, the initial moisture content of the materials should be ≤40% before entering the airflow dryer.
